Tour de Mannar
We made sure to do some research before hand when planing our tour since we have never been to Mannar before. There is a comprehensive trip report written by the CEO of Jetwing about his Mannar trip in 2006. According to the report it had taken nearly 10 hours to reach the Giant Tank. Keeping that in mind we planned to leave Colombo aound 10 PM on Friday so that we can arrive at the Giant Tank by 7 AM. Our team was so punctual; eventually we left Colombo one hour behind schedule... |

According to “Birds of Sri Lanka” by Prof. Sarath Kotagama, Mannar is one of the main entry points for migrant birds to the main land of Sri Lanka. The area facilitates lots of water holes which are rich in food for these birds so only few of these birds who are not satisfied with existing facilities continue their journey to other territories. Mannar is rich with bird life during the migrant season which is from September to May. Few of my friends who have been to Mannar recently told me that they have seen lots of birds in the area. So we decided that this is the best time to visit Mannar.
